More than a dozen states, including Gujarat, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, and Karnataka, have reported cases of Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD). According to statistics kept by the Department of Animal Husbandry, the disease has infected 16.42 lakh cattle in 197 districts and has killed 75,000 animals between July and September 11, 2022.

According to Ashok Kumar Mohanty, Joint Director of IVRI, LSD is not a zoonotic disease and it is not transmitted from animals to humans.
